Learn more about our school program.

What age groups does the program serve?

The current school program is designed for UPK/Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms.

How often do classes meet?

Participating classrooms receive 30 weekly music and movement sessions during the academic year.

How long is each session?

Each weekly session is approximately 30 minutes.

Is this an after-school program?

No. The current program is designed to take place during the school day as part of the participating school’s academic-year enrichment experience.

What Happens in the Classroom

What happens during a music session?

Each session centers on active, developmentally appropriate music-making. When a classroom participates in Music Together In School, the children take part together as a class. They have opportunities to sing, move, explore rhythm, listen, and explore instruments or props where appropriate, joining in at their own comfort level.

Activities vary from session to session. The goal is to create music and movement experiences that encourage participation and shared musical exploration among children and their teachers.

Do classroom teachers participate?

Yes. Classroom teachers and assistants participate alongside the children during the weekly music session, helping music and movement continue as part of classroom life between Specialist visits.

Do parents or caregivers attend the weekly school sessions?

Caregivers do not ordinarily attend the weekly school-day classroom sessions. Families connect with the program through their family music materials and through two school-wide participatory Parent Events held during the academic year for families of participating students.

Are the Parent Events performances?

No. Parent Events are participatory music experiences rather than children’s performances. They give caregivers an opportunity to make music with their children and experience aspects of the program firsthand.

How can music continue between weekly sessions?

Classroom teachers receive resources that can help them continue music-making between Specialist visits, allowing songs, rhythms, and musical activities to remain part of the classroom experience during the week. Participating classrooms need a basic set of egg shakers, rhythm sticks and movement scarves so children and teachers can continue making music together during the school week.

Class Size and School Fit

How many children can participate in one classroom?

Program pricing is designed for classrooms of approximately 8 to 25 children. A typical class has about 18 students. When a classroom participates, all of the children in that classroom take part in the music sessions together.

Can more than one classroom participate?

Yes. Schools choose which classrooms participate, and pricing is per participating classroom. Tell us about the number of classrooms and children you’re considering when you submit the school inquiry form.

What areas does Bracy’s Music Together serve?

Bracy’s Music Together serves schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Families and Music Materials

What materials do participating families receive?

Participating children’s immediate families receive the Music Together family songbook and access to the current Music Together song collection through the Music Together app, so the musical experience can extend beyond the classroom.

What are Parent Events?

Bracy’s Music Together provides two school-wide participatory Parent Events during the academic year for families of participating students. These gatherings give families and children time to make music together and help connect the music of the classroom with home.

How can families enjoy the music outside the classroom?

Participating children’s immediate families receive the Music Together family songbook and access to the current song collection through the Music Together® app. With the app, families can stream or download the class songs, sing along with on-screen lyrics and enjoy digital singalong storybooks at home or on the go. Learn how families use the app.

How are participating families kept informed?

Participating parents and caregivers may opt in directly to a 30-week family email resource from Bracy’s Music Together.

The weekly messages explain aspects of children’s music-making experiences and offer simple ideas families can try at home.

Families subscribe themselves, so schools do not need to provide parent email addresses or forward weekly messages.
