Bracy's Music Together brings the Music Together® curriculum into UPK/Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms during the school day. Each session invites children to sing, move and play with music alongside their classmates and teachers, using an approach designed for early childhood classrooms.
The curriculum includes original songs and traditional tunes from folk, jazz and world music traditions, presented in a variety of tonalities and meters.
What Children Experience
Sessions are built around developmentally appropriate music and movement activities. Songs and chants are pitched for young voices, and the same material returns from week to week so children can become familiar with it.
Singing
Songs and rhythmic chants pitched for young voices, with plenty of repetition.
Movement
Swaying, marching, dancing and other ways of moving to music.
Rhythm
Tapping, clapping and chanting together to feel the beat.
Listening
Listening to music, to sounds and to one another.
Musical Exploration
Tonal and rhythm patterns and playful musical ideas to try out and respond to.
Instrumental Play
Opportunities to play along with simple instruments.
Children can take part in different ways. Some sing from the first week. Others prefer to watch, move or listen first and join in gradually. Each of these is a way of participating, and our specialists plan for all of them.
Teachers as Music-Making Partners
Classroom teachers take part in sessions alongside their students, so the music becomes part of the classroom community rather than something that happens only during a specialist's visit.
Teachers also receive resources for music-making between weekly visits. Songs and activities can return during transitions, circle time or other moments of the school week.
Music Beyond the Classroom
Families are invited into the music too. Participating children's immediate families receive:
- A songbook
- A CD
- A digital access code
- Free app access
The program also includes two participatory Parent Events each academic year, where caregivers make music together with their children.
